Capt. M. Jamil Akhtar Khan started his career as a Deck Cadet in the Merchant Navy having obtained his academic education from Cadet College Hasan Abdal and thereafter graduating and passing out from Pakistan Marine Academy with Distinction.
Capt. Jamil progressively rose to the position of Captain after qualifying as Master Mariner and commanded various ships of PNSC before stepping in the insurance arena. Serving in senior positions in reputable general insurance companies, both local as well as foreign, he was actively involved in all the key operational aspects like formulating the companies’ Business Strategy Plans as well as other sensitive areas of the companies’ country-wide operations. In this duration, he also acquired the highest insurance qualification of ACII (U.K.) achieving ‘Distinction’ in the subject ‘Marine Insurance & World Trade’.
In May 2004, Capt. Jamil took up a challenging role of setting up the First Takaful Company of Pakistan being the key insurance person designated as ‘Head of Operations’ of that company. He represented the company on various international Takaful forums and contributed positively towards finalization of the legal framework for Takaful in Pakistan that eventually culminated in the form of Takaful Rules – 2005. Capt. Jamil then set up the second Takaful company in the country by the name ‘Takaful Pakistan Limited’ of which he has been the founding CEO/MD. His recent position was that of Chief Executive Officer of ‘National Insurance Company’; the largest public-sector insurance company that insures large infrastructure projects, energy-sector risks, Marine Hull and Aviation.
Capt. Jamil has taught in the Karachi University, the subjects of Marine Insurance as well as ‘Reinsurance’ to the students of Masters in Commerce (M.Com.) as well as in Sheikh Zaid Islamic Centre Karachi, the subject of Takaful, to the students of Masters in Islamic Finance. He has also given presentations on various aspects of Takaful and Micro-Takaful at several international forums in Kuala Lumpur, Jakarta, Manila, Nairobi, Dar-es Salaam, Zanzibar, Dubai, Kabul, Singapore and elsewhere.
Capt. Jamil is based in Karachi, offering consultancy services for the handling/settlement of Insurance claims in all classes of Insurance & Takaful, for individuals as well as for the corporate sector. In addition, he also offers advisory services for the adequate insurance arrangements, in a cost-effective manner, Risk Inspections and placements of insurance.
